Grand Turk (Ship) logbook, 1792-1793.

The logbook of the ship Grand Turk details a shipping voyage from Salem, Mass., to Calcutta and Madras, March 1792-June 1793. The ship's owner was Elias Hasket Derby; the master was Benjamin Hodges. The logbook includes mention of animals and birds seen on the voyage; examples of poetry and sea songs; equipment and supplies, specifically provisions, on board the ship; storms encountered; shipboard occupations; and an illustration consisting of a profile view. During the voyage, the Grand Turk spoke the ship Sally out of Philadelphia.
